Andys Wings Silencers Install
Thanks to Andrew at Adventurers Workshop

Well.... I had been toying with the idea of replacing the exhaust on the V-Strom and decided to take Andrew up on his offer... After installation and about 800 miles with them I am really satisfied.
My thoughts and observations...
Installation was very easy, the only snag was having to loosen the passenger
footpeg bracket on left side to get bolt threaded, off just enough where
it wouldn't catch and I didn't want to cross-thread.
For quality and craftsmanship 8 out of 10 (if I didn't have to loosen bracket
would have been 10 out of 10...)
Sound.....
It comes with two different baffles, one with a 28mm outlet and one with
a 32mm outlet (this one was installed when I got it...) The 28mm is maybe
just a bit louder than stock but sounds much better. The 32mm is definitely
louder but sounds great. This is what I am using and at highway speeds there
is no issue. I do find it to be a bit loud when less than 50mph at a constant
4k rpm, when varying the rpm it just sounds great....
Weight....
Stock exhaust was 25.5 pounds, the Wings were 12.5 pounds...
Performance.....
Prior to the installation the bike ran 94.5 hp on a dyno, In the next week
or two I am going to custom map my PCIII for the Wings and see what improvement
that they net... I will post results after the dyno run....
The bike seems to pull much harder at full throttle, when merging onto the
highway I found myself about 10mph faster that I usually end up at. I guess
the dyno will tell the truth....
One thing that I can say for sure is that at I am able to run at much lower
rpm now.... Before at less than 2500rpm if I would go full throttle it would
buck and stutter, now even as low as 1500rpm (not that I do it on a regular
basis...) in higher gears it pulls very smoothly.
Heat....
I was concerned about how hot they would be as I do occasionally use soft
luggage. Although the ambient temperature has not been higher than 75dF
even after 70 miles at a constant rpm above 5k, I could still put my hand
on both silencers. Warmer than stock and bordering on hot the closer you
got to the outlet of the silencer but still able to touch. The connecter
pipe is a different story.... As there is no type of shield there this does
get very hot.
Overall very happy with the Wings Silencers, now I just have find out the
real hp improvement they add....
12mm socket in two places and a 6mm Allen wrench in one place.... Very simple removal of stock exhaust, 10 minutes which included a slow walk to the fridge for a Harpoon IPA.....

Stock Exhaust weighed in at 25.5lbs, the Wings just a bit over 12 lbs....

The Wings are quality, very well made and look great...

The complete kit....

Attaching the connector pipe... this side fit perfectly but the other was off just a hair, I had to loosen the passenger footpeg bracket to catch the threads of the bolt.

The first one installed...

Comparing to stock... One of each...

Fits as good as stock...

It comes with the 32mm baffle installed, included is a 28mm which keeps the noise level just about stock.

Both silencers installed...
