Day 12 Newport to Long Beach

Despite our best efforts to sleep in, we were up again just after 7:00, ready to start another adventure. After coffee on our balcony, watching the dogs and children play on the beach, we headed down to the Newport Historic District, where we had an amazing breakfast overlooking the bay. We walked the tourist traps and headed back to the hotel to make the 11 a.m check out time. Although tempted to stay there a second night, on Joe's recommendation, we decided to head towards Blackwood Beach Cottages in Long Beach, Washington. The ride took approx. 4 hours to go the 160 miles there, pointing out to us another difference between California and Oregon. The Oregon towns were much more tourist oriented and friendly, whereas in California, the towns tended to be more run down and rural. One similarity however, was the lucky cows who were able to graze with their ocean view and beach front pastures. After checking into the cottage, we jumped back on the bike to pick up some frozen pizza's and a six pack, so once we settled in, we would not have to leave the dunes and our secluded hideaway.
